What is Authority.Builders?

Authority.Builders is a guest post and link-building platform that also provides content writing, link audit, and end-to-end link-building services.

Authority.Builders was founded in 2016 by Matt Diggity and Peter King. Matt Diggity is a well-known figure in the SEO industry and he lends a lot of credibility to the Authority.Builders platform.

As of October 2024, the marketplace has around 2,000 websites listed on its platform.

Our review

The first thing I noticed on the platform is that the publisher site names are masked.

Second, authority builders show data like domain authority metrics (Moz, Majestic, Ahrefs), traffic estimate, main traffic location, TAT, and pricing.

But sometimes, I want to check the site metrics by myself, especially since Semrush metrics are not provided. Data points like traffic trend historically, traffic geo-distribution are absent. And blurred out sitenames make it difficult to vet.

So, I am not a fan of masked sitenames.

Buying backlinks

Next, I tested If I am going to purchase a guest post, I would have a specific requirements and criteria in place to choose the website. As a user, I want to promote my Content Audit Tool on a truly authoritative website.

So here are my criteria in choosing the links:

  1. The publisher site must receive more than 1,000 monthly organic traffic. I want a Google-recognized site.
  2. The traffic is stable or growing. Must not be in a decline.
  3. Majority of the traffic should come from the US. My site and business caters to the US market, so I expect the same.
  4. The site should be relevant to my industry. Or in the same category. A cooking website isn’t the best place to promote an SEO SaaS tool.
  5. I want a Semrush Authority Score (AS) higher than my website’s, which is 24 as of today. Moz DA can be manipulatedAhrefs DR can be manipulated. These legacy metrics have fallen prey to the “DR hackers.”
  6. I prefer the content publisher or platform copywriter to create content following their guidelines, using my input as the foundation.
  7. Lastly, I want to spend $200 or less on my backlink. Price matters.

With these criteria in mind, I set out to filter the sites.

Authority Builders has some filters but not enough for my criteria.

I could filter sites based on monthly traffic, site category, domain authority metrics (but not Semrush AS).

- xamsor

While I couldn’t filter for price and main traffic country, I could sort them.

Overall, I would say the filters are okay, but could be improved.

The main problem, however, is I can’t vet these sites. The site names are masked. And I can’t check these metrics on other tools like Semrush or Ahrefs. I have to rely on Authoirty Builders data here.

Customer support speed and quality

To check the company’s support quality, we submitted an anonymous support request asking about how to use filters.

Unfortunately, we haven’t received any response from them.

Public reviews responsiveness

Authority Builders has generally favorable reviews (although a small sample size) on Trustpilot.

The few 1* star reviews (like this one) complained about the blurred out domain names as well. An issue I agree with.

Founders accessibility

We love talking to founders about their products and requested a short interview from all the rating participants. Unfortunately, Authority Builders declined our request. So we couldn’t gather any additional insights from its founders.

However, Matt Diggity is well-known in the SEO community, has a strong following, and holds a solid professional reputation.
