Interface
Ereferer has an easy-to-use interface. The dashboard has all the required info about the publisher websites.
Site traffic, keyword ranking, Majestic CF and TF, publication rate, link type, and price—all the key features. The details section provides additional data on traffic trends.
The only thing missing here is the traffic geo-distribution.
Overall, a good job on the interface and the publisher metrics provided.
Buying Backlinks
While it’s good to look at all the data about the publisher sites, my goal is to filter and find the sites I want for link-building. As a user, I want to promote my Content Audit Tool on a truly authoritative website. So, here are my criteria:
- The publisher’s website must receive at least 1,000 monthly visits from organic traffic. I want a backlink from a Google-recognized site.
- The traffic should be stable or growing, not declining. Links from a site whose traffic is nosediving provide little value to me.
- The traffic source should be the US, as it’s my home market, and 90% of my audience is based here.
- The publisher’s relevance matters for topical authority. A cooking website isn’t the best place to promote an SEO SaaS tool. So, I need to filter for the website industry.
- I want a Semrush Authority Score (AS) higher than my website’s, which is 24 as of today. I don’t consider legacy metrics from Moz, Ahrefs, and Majestic, as they became useless after Google’s Useful Content Update in March 2024. DA and DR were too easy to manipulate for years before the March update.
- I prefer the content publisher or platform copywriter to create content following their guidelines, using my input as the foundation.
- Lastly, I want to spend $200 or less on my backlink. Price matters.
So, I set out to filter sites based on these criteria.
A good number of filters were in place. I could filter sites from the US, with organic traffic above 1,000 monthly, writing available, and for my price range.
But there were some misses.
While there was a filter for website categories, it was too broad for me. I was looking along the lines of – Tech, Internet, SEO. The closest category I could find was Business – which is too broad.
Next, I could filter for Moz DA. While Moz DA is the oldest and the first domain authority metric, it is easy to manipulate. I prefer Semrush AS for filtering site authority.
With the available filters, there were 394 sites that fit my bill.
But here’s where things got interesting.
Despite my 1000+ organic traffic filter, some of the sites had lower traffic, by a margin!
Ereferer shows the traffic as 49 with an extremely confusing traffic chart:
Another yellow flag is Moz DA metrics. A site with a Moz DA of 77, has almost zero traffic and a Semrush AS of 6.
Data accuracy
On the brighter side, I haven’t found any websites with wrong data though. While the filtering is not perfect, whatever the data is provided about the publisher sites, they are accurate.
| Traffic shown in | Ereferer | Semrush |
| goodmenproject.com | 9K | 15K |
| beforeitsnews.com | 74K | 110K |
| benzinga.com | 1.5M | 5.4M |
Infact, the traffic figures are understated compared to what Semrush estimates. So, good job on that!
Customer support speed and quality
To check the company’s support quality, we submitted an anonymous support request asking about how to use filters.
It’s been months now, and we haven’t received any response.
The team needs to improve its public communication.
Public reviews responsiveness
When you look at the Trustpilot reviews, ereferer.com has too many 1* reviews. In fact, all the reviews are 1* (still, the sample size is too small to draw any conclusions). The common theme of bad reviews is publishers getting banned for providing spammy or low-quality links (good!).
However, there also seem to be payment issues. Several reviews pointed out that users cannot withdraw their funds. While the withdrawal threshold is on the higher side (€100 as opposed to $20 to $50 on other platforms), the platform’s replies are even more concerning. The replies sound a bit annoyed. When we mailed their team, we didn’t receive any response either. The platform needs to improve its public communication.
Founders accessibility
We love talking to founders about their products and requested a short interview from all the rating participants.
Unfortunately, we did not receive any response from Ereferer.com.

Bottomline
We consider Ereferer.com to be a legit marketplace despite its many flaws. The marketplace has a clean interface, with decent filtering options and accurate data metrics about the publisher sites. However, the marketplace could use more detailed and transparent metrics about its listed sites, and their support quality could be vastly improved.
